    1972-1973 Voted captain and most inspirational on the West Seattle High School Cross Country team and captain on the Track & Field team.
Best races: X-Country - 1st place finishes against Lincoln, Ballard, and Rainier Beach;
2nd place in 1972 Seattle Metro League Southern Division Championships.
Track & Field - 1973 Seattle Metro League Championships, 2 mile, 4th place, 9:52.
    1975 Voted "Staff Man of the Year," Camp Parsons, B.S.A.
    1978 Joined University of Washington College of Engineering faculty at age 22.
    May 18, 1980 Called to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
    1981 Married high school friend Nancy Cameron Rutherford (SPU class of '77).

Left the University of Washington and moved to Seattle Pacific University.
Awarded Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies.

  1992 Second daughter Jean Elizabeth born.
Survived melanoma cancer.
  1992-1993 Built new home in west Bellevue, WA.
  1995-1997 Taught classes on "Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions"

Bellevue Presbyterian Church.
  1997 Established personal business, SL8.COM.
  1998 Completed five of six courses in the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer training program; my study was interrupted when I broke my leg in a bicycle accident.
  2000—2017 Lead weekly Men's Saturday Morning Bible study at Bellevue Presbyterian Church.
  2004 Received the 2003-04 SBE Dean's Service Award.
Began serving as sports photographer for Bellevue Christian School.
  2005 Daughter Ann graduated as a valedictorian of Bellevue Christian School and National Merit Scholar and began attending SPU in the University Scholars program.
  2008 Son Nathanael graduated from Bellevue Christian School, graduating with eleven varsity letters and nine State appearances; entered Seattle Pacific University, and joined the Cross Country and Track & Field teams, also joining the University Scholars program.
    2010 Daughter Ann graduated Summa Cum Laude from SPU (English major, Spanish minor).
    2011 Dick and Nancy were named "Parents of the Year" by Bellevue Christian School.
Daughter Jean graduated from BCS as a National Merit Commended Scholar and entered SPU's University Scholars Program.
Daughter Ann married Thomas Disher of Dallas, OR. and they moved to South Korea to teach at Big Heart Christian School.
Son Nathanael earned his fourth varsity letter in Cross Country from SPU (his 10th varsity letter overall).
    2012— Began teaching Bible classes at Emerald Heights Retirement Community.
    2013 Daughter Ann began teaching at Seattle Christian School, SeaTac.
Son Nathanael graduated from SPU (Physics major, Chemistry minor), and began working as a paraeducator.
Inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Business Honor Society.
Voted onto the Seattle Pacific University faculty by the SPU Faculty Senate.
    2016 Daughter Jean graduated Magna Cum Laude from SPU (Theatre major, Performance emphasis; Computer Science minor).
Son Nathanael married Cynthia Eby of Aloha, OR.
    2017 Granddaughter Charis born.
    2018 Grandson Jonathan born.
Became West Seattle High School Alumni Association Class of 1973 representative, WSHS73.org.
    2019 Inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society for Economics.
Received the 2018-19 SBGE Dean's Service Award.
    2020 Daughter Jean married Joel Sitte.

    2021 Granted Faculty Emeritus status by the SPU Board of Trustees.
