New Duties in the New School Year

My new weekly newsletter is getting good reviews.  It's "mobile friendly," as the screen shot from Librarian Cindy Strong's phone shows.  The down side is that it takes as much as 10% of my week to complete this one task.

My First New Excel Class is Mostly Behind Me

As for my new version of BUS 1700 Spreadsheets, so far so good.  The twelve hours of lectures ended on the 14th.  The lectures were well prepared and adequately presented.  And three brave students took the Microsoft exam on the 26th — and all three passed.  In fact, my volunteer model, Charles Hopper (right), outscored my 924 with a 948.  I have now written seven practice exams and plan to prepare at least four more.  I felt great that my first three students passed, but the next day a few students came by and showed themselves ill prepared for the exam.

The rest of the class involves students taking the exam when they feel ready.  And that means my Monday nights are spoken for up to December 7th.

Cross Country 2015

Nathanael ran 7th at the Twilight XC Invitational in Marysville with a 17:32.  He was 6th last year and a bit faster.  This year Cynthia came up on that first weekend in October and joined us on the team bus.

On Sunday the 5th, she and her parents David and Helen Eby joined our clan (sans JB in LA) at Susan's house for dinner.  David and I hit it off and Helen and Susan did as well.

Nathanael and Cynthia continue to put Skype to the test.  Alas, it reminds me too much of long late night phone calls from Seattle to Pullman. But those were not free.

In addition to photographing Bellevue Christian runners at the league championships, I also created a little page for Annie's school, Seattle Christian.

On Halloween, the District III championships were held once again at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood.  The last time BCS sent a team to State was when Jeannie Beth ran as a senior in 2010.  And the last time they sent a boys team was in 2008, with Andrew VanNess leading the team, and Jeannie Beth there as an alternate on the girls team.  Well, this year the BCS boys took 2nd and will travel to Pasco on November 6th and race on the 7th.  I'll be there once again.  And the award banquet will require me to take a Monday night off from Excel exams, as that will be on Monday night the 9th.  Above left, Senior Scott Graves (7th), Junior Craig Lambert (1st), and Sophomore Jared Donnel (2nd), did the most to secure the State berth for the Vikings.

Still Ticking

Dr. Kelley says my "numbers" have improved but he still has me taking six pills each night and two of them each morning.  My A1c this month was 7.0.  Down from June but still high.  Atorvastatin, Lisinopril, Tamsulosin HCL, Metformin, and Gyburide keep me vertical.  The Lisinopril is awesome in getting my blood pressure down to a very nice level.  But now that I read the side effects of my latest addition, Gyburide, I recognize some of those effects.  The only "normal" drug I take is low dose Aspirin.

Bits and Pieces

♦  We have reached 1 Corinthians 7 in Bible study but I will miss the 31st and November 7 with Cross Country races.

♦  I've managed to send Jean a series of postcards of vintage DC comic book covers.  I think they are more fun than emails, and still say, "I miss you."  I won't be sending her all 100!  She's due home in early December.

My Quote from October

“I would rather be ruled by a just Turk than by an unjust Christian.”
