Weight change in March, 195.5 to 198.5

Another Quarter in the Books

Winter quarter ended with a rush since I was determined to not do any SPU work between March 16th and March 28th.  As usual, I was able to grade the Statistics final exams and submit those grades on the actual day of the exam (the 14th).  That left only the 15th to grade 70 Spreadsheet final exams and to prepare my syllabus for two new sections in the spring.  By staying late I got it all done.

I had an important meeting with Jeff Van Duzer on  the 31st to review his plans for me for the coming year.  He proposed nothing new except for us to try to cut back my teaching of so many classes which keep me from other duties.

Track Season Begins at www.Bellevue1.net

While Nathanael might be out of shape, I'm ready for the next sports season to start.  My first set of pictures came out better than I had expected.  I won't be able to make it to all of the meets but those that I do attend will be well documented at Bellevue1.net/BCSTF/.

Coach Sloan had Nathanael run the 800m in his first race of the season on the 23rd.  On the 28th he ran the 1600m (mile) instead.  He led (at lest for the first lap.   The 4x400 relay team took first place, with Nathanael running the third leg, and their time was the 5th fastest in the State this early in the season.

I should do a monthly "Kids Report"

Jean
continues with gymnastics once a week.  She procrastinates with her homework.  She earned a part in the Chinook Middle School spring production of Annie.

Annie is enjoying school, again receiving perfect marks for winter quarter.   She plans to commute back to Bellevue in the afternoons to work as the Stage Manager for the BCS spring production of Les MisérablesIt will be Mr. Hagan's final  production at BCS before he retires this year.

Nathanael seems to be cruising through 10th grade with his usual success.  Writing is still his weak suit, but he's really enjoying AP Physics.

Mr. and Mrs. Don and Barbara Attebury

Professor Don Attebury and his fiancé Barbara just couldn't wait until June. I can now add Wedding Photographer to my job skills. See a sample of the photos at Bellevue1.com/ Attebury/.  I had 61 photos printed at COSTCO as my gift to the new couple.

Peggy Swanstrom, our SBE Receptionist, played wedding hostess as well as matron of honor.  The Dean's Administrative Assistant, Lindsey Peterson, did the music on both piano and flute.
I did the still photography while Nancy handled the video taping. Dr. Denise Daniels' daughters made perfect flower girls and Dr. Knight loaned his place on Lake Chelan to the couple for part of their honeymoon.  SBE does weddings well!  Professor Attebury will return to Michigan after this quarter ends, completing three years with SBE teaching Managerial Accounting.

The Saturday Morning Men Go on Retreat

The Saturday Morning Men's Bible Study took a break from the ordinary and enjoyed a truly extraordinary Friday night - Saturday retreat at the facility owned by one of our members.  Jack Talley graduated in Economics at the UW with me in 1977.  But, while I stayed to teach at the UW, he joined Microsoft a few years later.  He retired about five years ago and, like I did, turns 51 this year.

The retreat was an outstanding event.  You can get a feel for it here.

A Big Anniversary Month: Our 25th

Twenty five and an half years ago I was with my mom in Spokane visiting Grandma Mary in early September.  Somehow the topic of girlfriends came up (I was without one at the time -- a very rare season for me from age 17 to 25).  She suggested I look up Nancy Rutherford, a close high school friend.  I often describe that day as a "V8 experience," as in, "I could of had a V8!"  Less than a month later we were engaged.

If Nancy couldn't get a trip to Tahiti for her anniversary present, at least she could get some work out of me and finally get the attic painted, floored and furnished for Annie.  I did odds and ends around the house so she could concentrate on the attic (with Annie, home for Spring Break).  I did manage to rewire the basement bathroom so she could finish the walls there, and I cleaned the driveway and did other jobs she wanted.  On the actual anniversary date, March 14th, we finally used the six year old $75 gift certificate I'd been given when SBE became nationally accredited.  We both agreed the high prices were for the view and the service, not the food.

On March 25th, however, Nancy did manage to pull off a special anniversary surprise party at Susan's house.  Family and  friends (17 folks) conspired to meet for dinner and dessert at 4:00PM.  But Nancy and I had agreed to photograph a wedding at 2:00PM in Monroe.  It all worked out smoothly and the party was a big success as well as a complete surprise.  Just as she did on our 10th anniversary, Nancy managed to fit into her wedding dress.

Dad Turns 87

Dad celebrated his 87th birthday (3/3/19) at Ivar's Salmon House on the 28th, soon after when it was reopened.  I sat next to him and repeated what others said since his hearing is so bad.  Talking to brother Don was little better.

Don and Judy, Randy, Mitsuko, and Nancy and I joined mom and dad.  Mom continues to slow to a creep both physically and mentally.  But she still finds joy in her children.

Still Under Construction

In 1992 we tore the old house down.  The huge attic of the new house was to be Annie's bedroom in the trees.  Fourteen years later the room is finally getting painted and the flooring is in the gym waiting to be cut to fit.  Spring break with dad at home to cook and drive kids to events, freed up mom and Annie to get this job underway.

In the picture above, you can see through the still missing window into the gym.  There is the trampoline, standing on end, to allow us to roll out the vinyl. The carpet for the landing is also waiting to be installed.  Maybe then we can actually get a door for this room!

Bits and Pieces

  • My weight continued to creep up in March.  Since I am the family cook, I have more trouble in that area when I'm on vacation.  Half of March was spent on vacation.
  • I'm feeling great relief with the pressure off at work.  Now I need to help Nancy, to relieve the pressure at home.
