A 34th Anniversary Surprise

Nancy did it again.  She organized a surprise lunch of  our closest friends.  We met at Palace Korean BBQ in east Bellevue near Crossroads Mall.

Annie had selected the restaurant and I had expected only the immediate family.  But when I walked in, there was Steve White (Sheri was working.)  And when Bruce and Liane Fremd arrived, I choked up as if I was coming down with laryngitis.  (This has happened before when I've been emotionally moved.  When my first boss at SPU, Dr. Doug Rich, had his farewell reception, I could not get a word out for my grief.)

After we were well into cooking mounds of various meats on gas-heated stoves in the table, the James family arrived.

Nancy was especially pleased that she had pulled off another flawless surprise party.

Jeannie Beth in an All-female Cast of 1776

Jeannie Beth continues to get call backs and acting roles.  This is the very part she had hoped for in this summer production.  We got this email on March 10th.

Hi Family,

I will be playing the part of Charles Thomson, Secretary of Congress, in an all-female production of 1776!  Performances are June 25-28th.

I have been asked not to post on social media until they send out an email to the entire cast, so I ask that you also refrain (that means you, Annie ;) ).

Eeeeeek!

Love,

~JB

"Max" is a
Golden-crowned Kinglet

Little Max has decided his reflection in the windows and mirror of our van is another male Kinglet.  Randy and Laurie are both Birders, but it was Laurie who correctly identified him.

This is yet another realm of photography.  But the birds will have to come to me to get their portraits taken.  I don't have time for one more thing.

He lets me get close.

Don and Judy Build in the Great Outdoors

The new addition to Don and Judy's cabin is well underway.
It's near the west end of Lake Cavanaugh on the south side
of Skagit County (just northwest of Oso).

Laurie Builds in the Great Indoors

Laurie's woodshop got its vacuum system installed, and she says, and I quote, "It really sucks!"  I suspect she'll be designing and building beautiful wooden creations for years to come.  It looks like I'll be the last Sleight sibling to officially retire.

2015 BCS Track & Field

Again this year I am "Doc," the Bellevue Christian School Track & Field photographer.  I don't have the time — but I find the time.  I realize that if I don't do this, I wouldn't get outside and interact with another community.  And they really appreciate my service.

Bits and Pieces

The two BUS 1700 Spreadsheets sections that began on the 30th will be the last ones in their current format.  I have taught this class over 80 times.  I am working with Certiport and our CIS department to make SPU a Certiport Authorized Testing Center so that I will be able to test my students in October.

On Saturdays, we finished Nehemiah, covered Malachi in two sessions, and got through Psalm 138.

I have been appointed as the acting Chapter Secretary of the SPU chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma while Dr. Schlee is on sabbatical and Dr. Karns serves as acting President.  It means all the actual work of the chapter falls to me this year.

As of March 17th, this is official language in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Book of Order.  "Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the wellbeing of the entire human family. Marriage involves a unique commitment between two people, traditionally a man and a woman, to love and support each other for the rest of their lives. The sacrificial love that unites the couple sustains them as faithful and responsible members of the church and the wider community."  It is another loss for Biblical truth, and a win for the politically correct left-wing of my denomination.  It may be the death knell of this once great denomination.

Matt 19:4-6   "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator `made them male and female,' and said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

My Quote from March

20 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come,
21
and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, `Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and
seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.' 22 And many peoples and powerful nations will come to
Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him."

23 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take
firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, `Let us go with you, because we have heard that
God is with you.'"

Zech 8:20-23 NIV

I am deeply concerned with the recent negotiations with Iran regarding their nuclear ambitions.  Their continued animosity toward Israel and the U.S. make them an enemy to be suppressed not coddled.
